At Roverlund, we know choosing the right carrier for your adventure buddy is essential to enjoying smooth journeys together. Whether you’re running errands around town or jetting off to far-away places, having a carrier that your pup is comfortable in is a necessity.
Here are our tips to select the right size Roverlund pet carrier!
WEIGH YOUR PUP
You can use your pup's estimated weight as a guide to select the best pet carrier size.
The Out-of-Office Pet Carrier comes in two sizes:
- Small (suitable for most dogs and cats 15 lbs and under)
- Large (suitable for most dogs and cats 25 lbs and under)
When in doubt, we always recommend going a size up.
MEASURE YOUR PUP’S LENGTH AND HEIGHT
If you have a measuring tape handy, you can also take their measurements to confirm it will be a good fit. Start at the front of their chest and measure the distance to their rear. For their height, measure from the top of their shoulder blade to the base of their paw.
- Small fits most dogs up to 16.5" in length and 10" in height
- Large fits most dogs up to 18.5” in length and 12" in height.
I’ve received the carrier. How do I know it is the right fit?
It is okay if the carrier is a snugger fit, as long as your pet seems comfortable and can turn around inside the bag.
Most Pups Won’t Stand Up in the Carrier
It is totally normal if your pet is not able to stand up in the carrier.
Think of the ideal size as a cozy, snuggly place for your pup or cat to curl up in and snooze. With soft-sided carriers like ours, most pups—unless they are teacup or toy size breeds—will not be able to stand up inside—and that’s okay!
Maximizing Your Pup's Space for Air Travel
Our carriers are in-cabin compliant with most major airlines.
Each carrier is designed to fit within the space under the seat in front of you, which is typically about 12” in height.
Our pet carrier is one of the largest in-cabin compliant carriers available. When traveling by plane with our Large size, we recommend removing your carrier's rear pocket insert. This way, your carrier's flexible rear frame can more easily conform to the seat requirements in front of you.
Please keep in mind that in-cabin pet policies are subject to change at any time, and we always encourage our customers to reach out to your specific airline prior to your planned travel with any concerns you may have.

Recently adopted kitten #2 and was needing a larger carrier suitable for air travel. 9 pound cat and 3 pound kitten fit just fine and not to worried about running out of room as the kitten grows. Flew Allegiant with the large carrier just fine. It is larger than their policy, but it is soft sided, fits under the seat just fine. I did remove the side insert so it could compress a little:.
I was slightly worried about purchasing the large size because the dimensions were slightly larger than Southwest’s requirements. I had no problem fitting it under the seat. My 9 pound Norwich Terrier got well with room to be comfy. I didn’t use the shoulder strap, found the handles Easter, but it was great for a leash.
I loved this carrier… LAX measured this bag 2 times to make sure it was TSA approved! Measurements were spot on but the plane I was flying had a bit smaller compartment and could the bag squish! Unbelievable! It did squish on one side but come on let’s get the airport’s on board with the fur babies carriers!
I’m a weekend hiker and my long haired mini doxie loves to go but she’s too small to go the long distances. This back pack is perfect we can be together for long hikes. It’s easy to get her in and out so she can walk for parts of the hike too. Highly recommended!
This is the best bag for travelling with your pet and I have been through quite a few! In fact I now have two so I can switch them up because they are so cute! My micro goldendoodle is comfortable to travel long flights and the bag is easy to carry and super sturdy. Plus the zippered back pocket is a lifesaver. I cannot recommend this bag enough!!

There was an issue with my carrier when it arrived, but the customer service team responded very quickly and took care of it for me immediately. They were super nice and helpful and I’m so excited to pick up my new puppy soon!! I know he’ll love it and I definitely recommend supporting this business. It’s so important to not only have quality products, but quality customer service as well, and Roverlund has both! Not to mention the camo and orange combination is such a statement piece.
We bought this for our daughter when she brought her Frenchie to his new home! He’s almost 6 mos and traveled by air for the first time this week. Alex loved everything about the carrier and Oliver was so happy with his portable home💗 the side zipper was great and the attendant allowed her to keep it open when not takknh off/landing - and it was easy to attach his portable fan. Only recommendation would be to have wheels but then it might not fit under the seat ?

I bought the large carrier for my 10 lb cavalier puppy. H e had plenty of room and it fit easily the fit under the seat with room for my feet on a Southwest flight.
We flew on Alaska Airlines, and upgraded for a bit more legroom. No issues checking in. The large carrier fit well under the window seat. One flight attendant even commented on how cool the carrier looked!
The out-of-office pet carrier is well designed and well made. Our Havanese puppy rides in it, comfortably. We will be taking her on her first airplane trip in November.
Worked well to bring my new puppy home in. Large enough for her to grow into. I travel so this will come in handy as it sits on top of my luggage. Wish it had removable wheels 😃
